"PETA"

I was very disappointed to see EmmyLou is a member of the radical animal rights group PETA. PETA has been proven to has monetarily sponsored activities of the ALF (Animal Liberation Front) a group that is on the FBI's domestic terror group watch. She has lost this fan

At the risk of sounding like an old hippie, which I was never was, I don't see anything wrong with caring for animals in the same way that we (should) care for our fellow humans. And what is radical about wanting ethical treatment for animals. I eat meat, unfortunately but I try to avoid farmers/producers who abuse their animals.

Whatever the human race believes, this planet does not depend on us being here. In fact, if the entire human race disappeared tomorrow, it would not change a thing. Life, whatever that is, would go on and eventually some other species would emerge.

PETA, if they had their way, would outlaw the use of animals for human use. No lab testing on rats for new medications, no beef or poultry industry, or hunting. This group thinks that people do not have the right to have pets or use animals for our benefit in any way and have been linked to groups that are violent in their agenda.

Cattle chew their cud and belch huge amounts of toxic gas into the atmosphere. If people were to stop eating cattle, they
would have to be slaughtered and/or sterilized. Come to think of it, I would sterilize humans too in a heartbeat. Kill the cows and especially the chickens, and millions of humans worldwide would die. I'm not going to stop eating beef and poultry and I'm not going to stop listening to Emmylou. I won't stop throwing stuff at stray cats in the yard, and I won't start abusing animals. Once upon a time in Dallas, my date and I were threatened by a guy who had left in dog in the car with the window cracked and it was hot inside that car, and my girlfriend slipped the card inside his car that said "You Dog May Be Dying", and he was on the verge of violence, yelling his fool head off. Now, that's crazy.

That is seriously the dumbest thing I've heard all day..."I'll try not to eat animals that are abused.". Firstly, why does it matter how it was treated...its dead and you're eating it now. Secondly, how would you know if the cow has been abused or not?! Exactly, you dont. And thirdly, Animals have no souls, therefore, even though we shouldn't just destroy all animals and completely abuse them to an extent that is out of hand, they were put on earth to provide for us. So go eat some steak you weirdos.

o yeah, hope this helps...

Animals do not have souls? Animals were put on Earth to provide for us? I suppose that in your ignorance you are impling that humans have souls and that humans have divine rights over animals. What tosh!! Go and find something better to do with your miserable life than attacking those responsible humans who wish to see an end to the horrors of factory farming, lab raised animals for experimentation etc.

In support of your post, I'll mention two books that I just bought.
1] The Ten Trusts -- Jane Goodall and Marc Bekoff
2] Up from the Dragons, the Evolution of Human Intelligence -- Skoyles and Sagan

These are primers for the thinking described in this thread.

PS Confession time. I posted under the name Elmer Fudd on this thread. I think I was feeling shy that day. I hope I'm not disqualified from the thinking category in any way because of it.

I personally agree with and support PETA, but that is not why I listen to Emmylou Harris.

I'm sorry you will deprive yourself of some of the sweetest music this side of heaven simply because you disagree with her on one or many issues. I'm also sorry Emmylou has lost a fan because she believes in the ethical treatment of animals.

I will buy my sister (very anti-PETA), Emmylou's entire catalog for Christmas to compensate your loss. She will love it regardless of the PETA issue, and I suspect will keep it up to date.

PETA is a load of crap. You cannot distinguish between plants and animals since they are both forms of life. The only diffference between a plant and an animal is a cell wall. Screw you retards for trying to make one out to be better than another.
STFU and eat.

   Hey Genius,

If you don't distinguish between plants and animals, then why should we treat certain animals (cows, monkeys, etc) so much better than other (us, or didn't that occur to you?). That's exactly the point PETA is, albeit pointedly, trying to make.

And to the person who no longer considers themselves a fan of EL's music because she's affiliated with PETA, that's just sad. It's that kind of black and white thinking that has made such a mess of the US and other parts of the world politically and otherwise.

To you both I say STFU, be an aberrent American and THINK.

this thread has completely changed my mind about you peta guys. before i thought you were all an insane bunch of idiots, but now i know that you're right, and i'm sorry. i guess i just assumed that the reason that we treat animals differently to humans is that they are, but since they're closer to humans than plants, they must have the same rights as us.

good on you guys, and thanks

PETA undoubtedly do care about animals, its just they seem to be rather selective about where they may be.
PETA is currently urging supporters to lobby Judge Richard DuFour of Winsconsin to impose the maximum penalty on a Mr. Florez who appers to be guilty of dreadful mistreatment of his goats. Certainly such an action deserves support by all caring people.

However, when PETA were asked to send a similar message to the Attorney General of New South Wales, Australia, over horrific cruelty to cats (setting fire to one, throwing another under a train etc.), they feigned interest and did nothing. The perpetrators were given a slap on the wrist by the court (thanks for the help, PETA - one Ms. Amy).

Obviously American goats get more funds for PETA than Australian cats. Hence it is easy to come to the conclusion that this is a "for-show" organization and not really dedicated to eradicating cruelty to animals whatever they may be and whereever they are.

Contribute to RSPCA who are non political and have a proven track record worldwide for caring for animals.

Yours,

following this brilliant reflection: if you can't distinguish between plants and animals, why would you distinguish between animals and humans?

let's eat human meat too, it must be damn tasty!

hopefully you got what I mean.

to enlighten you: some vegetarians, on this earth, are questionning some moral ethics. Animals are closer to humans than plants.

I admire Emmylou's upfront endorsement for the humane treatment of animals. I give money to support the Humane Society but I also fish for fun, now and then (catch and release). Though I'm not yet a vegetarian. I don't think that these various things are contradictory.

PETA may not be a terrorist organization, but there is documented
evidence that they have made contributions to organizations that
the FBI designates as terrorists.

PETA does not seem to have a problem with terrorists who firebomb
research facilities, either.

PETA does not believe in using any medical product that derives
from animals, such as insulin. Exception made for their diabetic
vice president, who does use insulin, which she says is OK, because
she need to stay healthy to protect the animals.

They don't believe in euthanizing animals, altho they kill
thousands each year.

They a bunch of Humaniacs. Emmylou could find a much better
cause to devote her time and money.

I just worked a big fund raising event at Paramount pictures a couple of weeks ago for PETA. Now I don't have time to sit around researching all the things written about PETA. But, I have to say they did not come across as radical at the event I worked. They had many Restaurants there serving food (All vegetarian) but they had places like Johnny Rockets (a hambuger joint) serving non meat products..... now if they are so militant why would they allow a restarant known for serving up cows participate in their event???

Anyway I think that it is impotant for us to question ourselves on the way we treat animals and though I do not agree with all that PETA stands for I am glad that somebody is standing up for the animals.

I am not a vegetarian. However PETA makes me think & question. I am all for things that make me think and question.............. are you?

PETA is touted as a terrorist organization by the NRA, mostly because of their (PETA's) stance on hunting.
In fact, some big-wig of the NRA is (or did) "debate" a PETA big-wig on pay-per-view TV !!!!!

Just depends on which side of the fence you're sittin' on LOL

Well, I just have to understand something as humans we have what we call canine teeth. These teeth are used for ripping flesh. Yes that's right "oh my god ripping flesh" uhhhhh that makes me want to go and grab a veggie burger. Snap out of that comma that you idiots are in we are animals ourselves. Peta wants COMPLETE ANIMAL LIBERATION, Ingrid Newkirk is a crazy, retarted bitch who needs to go back to england where she came from and stay there. I'm sick of antis. The day they fuck with my heritage and tradition is the day I will have my revenge. We are all people. I'm an avid outdoorsman, and Naturalist I can live off the land and survive. Animals are here on this earth for us. I will not lower myself nontheless. For crying out loud Jesus ate meat. What in the hell is wrong with you people. Milk is good for you. That's right it's good for you, wake up. If your that much into the fucking health factor why don't you go to the Natural food store and buy yourelf some nice ORGANIC Milk. What is the deal with Vegetarians, Are they scared of meat? I don't understand this plague of a human species. they make me sick, and they stink like shit. If you can't get over it tough, because whether you know it or not you play a role in Animal deaths. OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH my god No, I killed the poor little fuzzy, wuzzy wabbit. You idiots. Look around in your house, I almost garauntee that there is some type of animal Matter. And that means trees. Yes that right trees. They are a living organism, they are alive. Books, purses, shoes jackets, car seats, gloves. That little cattapillar you step on your way to work, yes I know you prayed like hell when you did that. Or maybe that Frog or hit in the road. Or maybe your the fucking vice president of a menatlly emotional Anti animal liberation group called peta, and you use animal bi-products so you can around in your worthless body protecting the mother. Get a fucking life

You're so right, why do people believe in that clichees like PETA is a group of radicals?? PETA has high ideals and so does Emmylou who supports it. She's a really compassionate person and so is everyone who realizes animals aren't objects but human beings who just be treated with respect. me too, I admire Emmylou for her engagement - no need to talk about her qualities as singer-songwriter, those are undoubtedly perfect

You know,I'm pretty sure Emmylou Harris dose NOT support terrorist groups likeALF,she just wants to help and be kind to animals. That said,PETA has a pretty good front that most of the world sees, the "WE LOVE ALL ANIMALS AND STOP ANIMAL CRUELTY" front, and that apeals to any one who loves animals, they dont show there "LETS DESTROY A MEDICAL RESEARCH FACILITY AND FREE THE ANIMALS" they dont publisize there ignorance at what goes on in a medical research facility.I do,I was a vetrinary Tech at a large cancer research/medical school in New Orleans, and we were on a constant PETA watch, but what PETA dose not know,is that the lab animals in my care, were the most cared for, gently handled and stress free animals you will ever see,and I made sure the researcher did the same.they had the best food, housing, and care available.they were not suibjected to pain or fear or any kind of stress, and when the time came that they had to be put down,it was with high dose of anesthesia or CO2,they just went to sleep in the same way your cat or dog is for an operation at the vet.And i'm sure most people do not know that PETA dose more harm than good releasing lab animals, some time infected animals, that have no knowlage of fending for them selves and often those animals die from shock or stress. No,PETA dose not want the public to know about that, and Im sure Ms. Harris dose not know this either, because she might just quit supporting PETA if she did.just a thought.
