Re: Biography

I very much doubt that a biography or autobiography will ever appear. Emmy's interviews tend to cover pretty much the same ground and I feel she's probably told us as much as she want to. Phil Kaufman came up with some stuff (I loaned his book to someone and never got it back) but I guess the best b...

Re: European Tour Starts This Week

Were there 2 shows at Birmingham last night? I ask because Richard appears to have been to a different one than I saw. First, facts. No support act, although (unless I'm imagining it) Richard Thompson and his electric band had been advertised. With respect to RT, who I admire, I'm glad he didn't tur...

Re: in memory of

George Jones was gold standard. He lived his songs in his lifestyle. I'm not sure that there's ever been a better country singer.
Sadly death was not something in which 'no show' was an option.

Re: Nashville

I have a guilty secret. In spite of my earlier condemnation of Nashville I have continued to record the series, which I can then watch making copious use of the fast forward button. Recent lowlights: .the two principal women (Rayna and Juliette) wearing dresses that couldn't have been any shorter, l...

Re: in memory of

Quite a number of people have passed through the Departure Lounge recently. Kenny Ball - well known English trad jazz player who enjoyed a number of hits in the 60s. Terry Lightfoot - lesser known English trad jazz clarinetist who fronted one of the best UK jazz bands. Derek Watkins - English trumpe...

Re: Old Yellow Moon: Reviews

I've had the album for over a week now and have given it a lot of plays. Enough to convince me that it's the best thing that Emmylou has done for years. Some fine songs and some fine musicianship (always great to hear John Jorgenson and Steuart Smith). It's 18 years since I saw Emmylou and Rodney si...

Re: Nashville

Picking up on various points in this thread. Gillian Welch. Yes I like her but not everyone of her of her songs. I fact the best thing about Ms Welch is the guitar playing of Dave Rawlings. Dallas. Was pretty much a pantomime with JR being an over-the-top villain and Pammie being sickenly sweet. Our...

Re: Nashville

The storyline is marginally better than the music. The older woman seems to be modelled on someone like Shania Twain and the younger one on a Taylor Swift type, in other words exactly the sort of dross that Music City churns out in the mistaken belief that it's remotely country. The names of Buddy M...

Re: EmmyLou & Rodney at Troubadour 2/9/13

This looks like it was an unmissable event - which I missed.

I guess it's too much to hope that it was filmed - I'd pay good money for a DVD.
