Cowgirl's Prayer & Wrecking Ball

Hi everyone,
I have due to unfortunate circumstances been away from the real world for the last few weeks due to a family tragedy; my 80yr old father's passing. I had to race over to my poor mother here in Croatia (from Syd Australia). And today I check this forum to find a few interesting posts. Particularly this one where many of you, like me, are pleased to see new EH fans such as Daniel who, as it turns out, is only a couple of hundred km's from me right now here in Croatia. So u can imagine my interest...

I feel in some ways blessed to have lived a priveleged life in Australia where I was born & raised. But it is a bittersweet privelege. I come here to Croatia often & if I had a second life this is where I'd love to experience my childhood. Just not maybe in these modern times. You see, Croatia is on the precipise of either great or horrible times. This beautiful land has been ruled by foreign neighbours for way too long. You all would have seen the tragic pictures of Croatia's Homeland War of the early 90's. Now we're about to join the EU & that's what I mean by great of horrible future days. Daniel is better positioned to discuss that matter.
But I was lucky to have had the best of both worlds so to speak. The western world and... And I was lucky to be in Aust as my love of all music blossomed as a young child. Lucky because of disposable income to enjoy & indulge all the music tastes that unfolded in me.
I have many of friends & family of Croatian descent both in Croatia & abroad & can tell u this much; even during the dictatorship-led communist old Yugoslavia, the Croatian youth always enjoyed music from the world over. Many artists visited these shores & continue to even more so these days. And the music lovers never seem to get enough. One of my closest friends in Sydney still speaks fondly of the teenage years he spent in Zagreb & the bands he went to see, especially The Ramones, The Pixies & others.

I return to my reality and MY routine life in Sydney next week, with mixed emotions...

It's thrilling to see Daniel & other people with other non-anglo(?) backgrounds join this forum to hear & see their perspective of life, culture, music & the like...

I'm really sorry about your dad, Vic. Iskrena sućut.

I'm not a Harris' fan. I'm just find her music very good to excellent.

OT: Regarding the future, in any case, rich will get richer, poor poorer; luckily, I'm just a little bit on the richer side of the divide.
