Holiday music/dancing

Postby Mike Rogers » Wed Jul 18, 2012 5:22 am

I think the only person here who ever mentions dancing is Harvey. Strange really because it goes hand-in-hand with music.

I recently had a lovely break from the miseries of the English summer in the north of Mallorca where I did more dancing than I've done
for years. The music was drawn largely from the 60s, 70s and 80s plus some Latin American and provided by some excellent combos.

Does anyone else make it on to the dancefloor during their hols and if so what music do they strutt their stuff to?
I'm gonna tell you how it's gonna be

Glad to hear that you get up and dance Mike. Our holidays, the Summer ones anyway, involve dancing every evening. We have always liked to dance although we aren't experts by any means. I like the Latin stuff whereas Thelma likes the slower stuff such as Waltzing. We spent a week of dancing in Southern Spain once which was fantastic and we really got into the sexy stuff, Rhumba, Salsa. We go to dance class every Tuesday and Zumba on Sat morning and Mon evening. We also like to boogie, jive and generally shake it about whenever we get the chance but we're not embarrassing - honest! There was a Jazz Band busking in the centre of our town last Saturday and you should seen the looks we got when we did the Quickstep between WH Smiths and the Oxfam shop ;-) As I always say to my younger colleagues - I intend to live until I die.

I’d call myself a “wedding” dancer. I’ll dance if the occasion calls for it, and sometimes a little liquid courage helps. Play something old to start with.

Back in the wonder years, our grade six teacher tried very hard to instruct us in the social grace. That’s where we first learned to “do-se-do” our partners. The girls were naturally a little cautious with little roughnecks. They probably could see that it was a bit like trying to throw saddles on unbroken horses.

The slow process of relationship development through dance skills had begun. Back then I couldn’t quite see dance as a part of maturation, a step by step part of it.

Wow! Far out maan. I can just about picture the eight years old Craig doing the twist but the 20 year something "Club Dancer" is beyond even my fertile imagination ;-) Anyway, you are right about dancers being popular with the chicks, know what I mean ;;-) And when you do manage to get your new "girl" up on the dance-floor Craig, make sure there's some of those grab rails nearby just in case you blow her away with your fancy 1970s moves.

By the way, I've just learnt a new dance - The Mambo, which is rather cool. Hey mambo, mambo Italiano, Hey Mambo ....

I LOVE to dance, and do it constantly, even when I'm cooking dinner. I just returned from a 4 day music festival, and danced every day, all day long.
