I was there and it was wonderful. Highlights included Emmylou singing Talk to Me of Mendocino, The Pearl, and Hello Stranger as a duet with Ricky Simpkins, but my favorite moments were Emmylou's duet with Levon Helm on Evangeline, Levon and band performing Ophelia, and the finale of The Weight with seemingly every roots/Ameicana musician passing through the tri-state area making an appearnce. Seriously, those up on stage for the finale included Levon Helm, Emmylou, David Bromberg, Shawn Colvin, Hayes Carll, Tift Merritt, Joan Osborne, Amy Helm, and Larry Campbell , and I'm sure there were others whose names I'd recognize but I couldn't see who was standing to the side or in the back.
Hayes Carll opened, Emmylou followed, and the Levon Helm Band closed the over 3 hour show. Here's the Emmylou set list:
Six White Cadillacs
Orphan Girl
Red Dirt Girl
Kern River
Hello Stranger
One of These Days
Michelangelo
Emmitt Till
The Road
Wheels
Luxury Liner
Talk to Me of Mendocino
Going Back to Harlan
The Ship on His Arm
The Pearl
Together Again
Born to Run
I think I've said this before but with the possible exception of Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, the Levon Helm Band is my absolute favorite group to hear and see perform live. Hearing that group always reminds me all over again why I love music>
