William and Catherine's wedding

Postby Harvey2 » Fri Apr 29, 2011 10:38 am

Just wanted to say how wonderful it was to be able to enjoy, albeit from a distance, the wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton today. Let's all toast this genuinely nice couple and wish them every happiness.

Given the saturation coverage by the media, with its grovelling and puerile commentary, it was virtually impossible to avoid the wedding.
William is probably one of the few decent members of a dysfunctional family, apart from Brenda herself, and Catherine looked great - but
her sister was hot and I was having impure thoughts about her.
Harry Hewitt was pure Ruritana and those daughters of Fergie share her appalling dress sense. I was not alone in thinking that on the balcony
of Buck House, the Middletons looked far more regal than the official Royals.
The thing about Royal Weddings is that they're like buses - if you miss one, there'll be another along shortly.

Well now the dear old Beeb have managed to start covering other news, including the devastation in the US. I wonder what would have happened if
Bin Laden had been taken out on Thursday.
I'm gonna tell you how it's gonna be

Mike, you know that there would be no question of taking out Ossie until after the big wedding. However, whilst I share some of your thoughts on the performers, Fergies kids dressed by Lady Ga Ga etc. I don't get this "Pippa is really hot" thing. It seems that any female with a stick-like body and pert breasts is HOT these days. Even randy Harry didn't appear too distracted by the lady although, with respect to the Middleton family, I'm sure she is a wonderful human being and not at all interested in bagging a Royal.

There were some great photos from the day in yesterdays ST including one of The Queen squaring up to Camilla. The expression on Betty's face made me think of that New York metro traveller that my son witnessed recently. The thought in Batty's head suggesting that given the chance, she would "Bust that bitch's ass!" or something like that. Anyway, hey ho and on with the show.

There was a lot of giddy and over-the-top promotional TV coverage in the drawn-out lead-up to the actual day of the nuptials. Our CBC (publicly owned) TV coverage was all fawning but then fell predictably flat as the day unfolded. What would the dress look like and who designed it? We obsessed too much about this feature I think.

The better TV coverage seemed to be from CNN (Ted Turner, USA).

Who knew there are so many experts on the Royals -- nudge, nudge, wink, wink. Some experts tried very hard to impress, as if they were on the ER II ‘A’ list of regular palace guests.

The most unnecessary newsquip of the day came from one expert who reported that one female guest (I won’t mention her name though it was reported live on air) had a rhinoplasty after receiving her wedding invitation. She wanted to look her best and that called for a nose rebuild to fix the devastation caused by prolonged coke abuse.

All in all a great day with much pomp and circumstance for Will and Kate. Harry will have to go some to match Kate‘s glamorous appeal.

“The kiss” was on the front page of The Daily Star. I wonder which newspapers didn’t run with it on the front page.

I am still ..."humoured " by the whole thing The USA well and the world seem infatuated with this family .. i myself love the queen and all that she stands for and all she has devoted her life to , and maybe that is because Helen Mirren did such an outstanding job in an outstanding movie (my opinion ) well and also my britisgh friends here have enlightened me aswell ... but again , i had forgot Chuck had a brother is it andrew ?? why don`t we hear of him ?? why isn`t he as cool as chuck ??oh ., because he was the 2nd son , so no throne for him ?? what if the queen and chuck sadly died together then what ?? who would be King ?? or Queen ?? it woulkd be andrew wouldn`t it ?? anyway i thought that Will did well , his wife lookmed hot ... but i love a girtl with an accent ... "wink..wink"

The reason that I admire Kate and Pippa's shape is that they are pert - top and bottom. I hate the sight of so many of today's overweight brides displaying
acres of flabby flesh and cleavages the depth of the Grand Canyon. The woman who turned me on the most was Audrey Hepburn - no doubt some psychologist
would read something into that.

In the event that Brenda and Brian (a.k.a. Queen and Charles) were to expire together William would become King. Next in line would be Harry Hewitt. Any male children of William and Catherine take precedence over Harry (although there are plans afoot to let the girls have a go) and you can bet that many are fervently hoping that Catherine does her duty and starts producing sprogs a.s.a.p. Andrew will keep slipping further and further down the line of succession. If, by dint of some catastrophe, he became King that would almost certainly signal the end of the monarchy as he is a sour, unpleasant individual who has made some poor choices of friends. Some say he's not the smartest cat in the jungle.

The post wedding analysis still continues to dominate in spite of events elsewhere.

Craig, you need to remember that Helen Mirren is an actress, not a great one but an okay one. She played The Queen with the same level of insight that Brad Pitt might play Einstien, I don't know nor neither care whether he has done. Anyway, my point is, whatever you see on your screens or read in your media, the reality lies somewhere else. When I get to meet her, which is on the cards, I'll let you know what I think of our Queen.

Mike, I know what I would read into your taste in women but it's not safe to print here ;-)

Final word on the subject. I wonder where the royal couple are going for their honeymoon?

The story recently reported, and who can doubt what I’m saying because I’ve become an expert (nudge, nudge, wink, wink) on the Royals, is that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are staying in a farmhouse on an island off North Wales. William has to return to duty in a week or so and the present location is near enough. Later this year the couple will come to Canada on their first official visit. Just think, a week ago I knew nothing at all about the royals…and now…

yeah right? Would you spend your honeymoon in a cottage on an island off the coast of Wales (Anglesey)? Anyway, it's good to know that the couple are heading to Canada in the near future. I'm sure they will get a great reception (not!)

We’ll roll out the carpet like we always do for the Queen. Though I wouldn’t guarantee their bon ami reception in Quebec. It’s the old French/English thing. God help us here, we’re living in two solitudes. But in the rest of Canada they will be welcomed. The queen herself always gets large crowds. Harvey, some of us remember our roots. I would say the monarchy is alive and well in the hearts and minds of many Anglo Canadians. There is a small anti-monarchy group here though it does not receive much in the way of recognition.

To be honest, recent immigration has dampened the vigor of royal support. We’ve gone global. New Canadians arrive from all corners of the earth. Now surveys acknowledge that we see ourselves as Canadians first. It’s understandable.

Incidentally the TV wedding day coverage was a huge success over here (exclude Quebec). My criticism was directed only at the less than stellar media cover attributed to our own CBC (my opinion only). The live broadcast from Westminster was excellent -- and gained a bigger TV audience than any other recent broadcast of an important event.
