We’ll roll out the carpet like we always do for the Queen. Though I wouldn’t guarantee their bon ami reception in Quebec. It’s the old French/English thing. God help us here, we’re living in two solitudes. But in the rest of Canada they will be welcomed. The queen herself always gets large crowds. Harvey, some of us remember our roots. I would say the monarchy is alive and well in the hearts and minds of many Anglo Canadians. There is a small anti-monarchy group here though it does not receive much in the way of recognition.
To be honest, recent immigration has dampened the vigor of royal support. We’ve gone global. New Canadians arrive from all corners of the earth. Now surveys acknowledge that we see ourselves as Canadians first. It’s understandable.
Incidentally the TV wedding day coverage was a huge success over here (exclude Quebec). My criticism was directed only at the less than stellar media cover attributed to our own CBC (my opinion only). The live broadcast from Westminster was excellent -- and gained a bigger TV audience than any other recent broadcast of an important event.
