Bonaparte's Retreat is dedicated to providing nurturing foster care for shelter dogs when their allotted time at the shelter has elapsed; to prevent these wonderful animals from being euthanized and to find them permanent, loving homes.
Bonaparte's Retreat was created to rescue dogs who were unadoptable from Nashville Humane Association. It has evolved into rescuing dogs who have run out of time at Metro Nashville Animal Control.
We are working on starting a foster program for the dogs. For information on being a foster parent, please contact kate@emmylou.net

Bo is a foreclosure dog - his people left him chained in the backyard when they moved out. He was pretty traumatized by that, but has finally broken through his shell and what a wonderful dog! Bo is a Golden Retriever/German Shepherd mix. He's about 2 or 3 years old and he's smart, sweet, playful and loves children.
Bandit is a shepherd mix but he's quite small by our standards. He weighs about 35 pounds and is about a year and a half. He's smart, quick to learn and very affectionate. He needs an active life without small children and other dogs.
Our first cats, in foster care. Mishka is 3 years old and weighs almost 8 lbs. She and her kittens were rescued from people who were going to "dump" the kittens. Mishka had never been inside, but she's certainly taken to it. She's very well mannered and a very sweet cat.
Zhukov is Mishka's son. He's 3 months old and already weighs almost 6 lbs! I think Zhuk likes to eat. :) He's a very friendly and brave kitten who purrs a lot.
Gunnar is a shepherd mix who is recovering from heartworms. He's probably around age 2, very sweet but very shy.
I don't know - maybe Gunnar is a Canaan Dog mix. He's recovered nicely from the heartworms. He is working with a behaviorist for fear aggression. He really is a great big (80 lbs) puppy to the three people he isn't afraid of and we're working to expand his horizons. He does very well with the other dogs.
